As a non-government institution, the Chamber of Commerce functions in various ways to promote and protect the interests of the business community. Specifically in Cedar City, interests differ from larger institutions of the like across the nation and the world because of its geographic position. Serving a rural but growing area, small businesses justifiably have different needs and concerns than their urban or metropolitan counterparts. Over the course of the semester, I volunteered to better understand the ins and outs of the institution itself, its significance within the community, and the conflicts it faces or creates.
