My name is Nathan Myers and I am grateful for the opportunity to present my project for the Festival of Excellence. For my project, I will be performing Bring Him Home from the musical: Les Misérables by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil. In this song, Jean Valjean, a run away convict who has turned his life around and dedicated himself to God, has discovered that his adopted daughter has fallen in love with a student named Marius who is involved in the 1832 Paris Uprising. In order to save the Marius from perishing in battle, he joins the student revolution in order to find the boy. Once he has found him, Valjean discovers his own compassion for Marius and pleads with God to spare Marius's life. This song is the conversation Valjean has with God, explaining why Marius should be saved and even offering to die in his place. This particular piece is suited for presentation at this festival due to the deep emotion contained within the ballad, as well the high degree of musicality required to present the piece effectively. I am grateful for the opportunity to present and hope you enjoy the performance.
