The Male Survivor Project is an independent in-depth review of the current literature and services available to male identifying individuals who are victims of sexual assault or intimate partner violence (IPV). This self-developed independent project examines the processes by which the university handles reports of sexual assault, the types of resources available, and a rhetorical analysis of outreach materials and university policies. A review of the current literature on male victims of sexual assault/IPV will be presented. Developing themes describe a similarity in male victim’s help-seeking behavior between heterosexual and same-sex relationships. Other themes include a discussion about hegemonic masculinity as well as a broader understanding of gender perceptions when discussing sexual assault/IPV. Future recommendations for student affairs professionals and research implications are given.
