The novel flame-retardant 2,4,6-Tris(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)-1,3,5-triazine (TTBP-TAZ) is a compound recently found for the first time in plastic parts of consumer products as well as in indoor dust samples. TTBP-TAZ is apparently being used as a replacement for the ubiquitous polybrominated biphenyl ethers, which are under intense scrutiny for their environmental persistence and interference of biological pathways. However, it appears TTBP-TAZ may be of concern for its potential reactivity within biological systems. From our studies we have a better understanding of the reactivity of TTBP-TAZ which is immensely valuable in understanding the implications of this molecules entering the environment.
