Something that is becoming more and more of a thing is that families are being formed from previously terminated relationships. What we are looking at is blended families and how the effect of this is on stepfathers, step children, divorced parents co-parenting and children of other ethnicities/races. Some of the problems associated with step-families include children disregarding their new stepparents’ rules or wishes, stepparents not wanting to parent their stepchild, divorced parents not parenting in a harmonious way, and children of other ethnicities being judged by others because their parents do not share the same ethnic background. Form looking at the literature on this topic the biggest thing that has been done to help these individuals has mainly been therapy. There is a lot out there to help with issues that have already become a big problem but there is little in terms of prevention courses to help prevent the problems this population faces. What we are wanting to do to help prevent the problem from getting worse is we want to create a course that is a friendly environment and meets the needs of the population. We want to be able to have lessons that will help in the pursuit of these goals.
