Ex-Mormons are a growing group of individuals who have rejected their faith. This group consists of passionate individuals who flock to online forums in search of support from others like them. These individuals often describe the process of secularization to be painful and potentially dangerous. Former members often describe that they turned to drug abuse and self harm to ease their minds. I intend to disseminate a survey to self-described ex-Mormons in order to gather data on people who have left the church. I will ask questions regarding age, income, family support, participants behaviors, and their friends behaviors to better understand the environment surrounding each participant. This research is intended to: (1) Either support or deny the claim that post-secular individuals are at higher risk for potentially harmful behavior. (2) To see what environmental factors make these behaviors more or less likely. (3) To compare rates of potentially dangerous behaviors with rates reported by official sources.
